Abstract

This paper explores the five obvious successes of the European experience and the most pressing problems it will face in the future. Among the former, the following stand out: the balance of interests and community sense; the Customs Union; the common agricultural policy; its foreign trade policy and the participation of the organized national community. On the other hand, an observation of the current panorama of European integration leads us to conclude that the most critical problems that it will have to face in the future are related to the following aspects: Agricultural policy and budget; the European monetary system; regional imbalances; transnationalization and external challenges; unemployment and, finally, the enlargement of the Community.
